HMD Global has been keeping its promises to release minor and major software releases to its Nokia devices. After staying within the beta program, the public release of Android 8.0 Oreo software update is now rolling out to Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 devices. The roll-out is phase-based and may take some time to reach out to many right now.
Android 8.0 Oreo beta version for Nokia 6 was first released in December last year. HMD also relaunched the Nokia’s famous beta labs portal for users to join in the beta program. Interested Nokia 6 users participated and got their first hands with the latest features of Android 8. If you have been using the beta Oreo update on your Nokia 6 or still waiting for a public release, you can download it now right away. The firmware we are sharing below is the official OTA software update extracted from Nokia 6 (model TA-1021).
As already mentioned that the release of public software update is not at-once roll-out and may take weeks to reach all the Nokia 6 devices globally. Here we have brought to you the official update package (though from TA-1021 model). The full update package comes in the file size of 1.71GB.
Also note that HMD had released another software update with the January security patch the same month when Android 8 got released. So you will sill have the same security patch as of January. Expect another quick update in a few days with February security patch. For now you can have a quick look on the features of Android 8 Oreo as officially disclosed with in the System update interface.

How to install OTA Update Manually?
OTA updates can be applied manually to the phone, provided that you have not modified the software. If your phone is not rooted, doesn’t have a customized ROM and is exactly running on a stock firmware, you can proceed with any of the following two methods via stock recovery.
- Apply update from ADB
- Apply update from sdcard/phone storage (preferred)
Use any of the methods above on your own risk. As these methods are not recommended by the manufacturers, we don’t push you to do that. If you have any questions regarding the methods, you can always ask in the comments below.
